D.C. United sign Academy product Bill Hamid

Hamid

Lost in the build up and aftermath of yesterday's Open Cup defeat against Seattle was D.C. United's signing of Academy goalie Bill Hamid. He agreed to terms of a Generation adidas contract, becoming the first United Academy player to sign with the first team.

The 18-year-old has a massive physical presence from up close, and is list at 6'3", 235 pounds. Because of the new roster rules and regulations, Hamid will not count towards the 24-player limit and can train with the club. While he can't play in the league, he would be available for the CONCACAF Champions League matches United has remaining.

What do you think of the move by D.C.? Will Hamid start in any of their remaining Champions League matches, or should he be brought along more slowly? Or perhaps with the implosion of Josh Wicks, be used sooner? Happy to see MLS academy programs starting to produce talent?
