In what is normally a relatively quiet time over in Europe because of impending World Cup qualifiers, FIFA has announced that Chelsea will be banned from registering players until 2011.
The row is over reserve player Gael Kakuta, who Chelsea signed from Ligue 1 club Lens back in 2007. The French club filed an official complaint with FIFA who recently passed the ruling. On top of not being able to register players in the next two transfer windows, Kakuta cannot play for four months and is also fined 680,000. Chelsea, who will likely be held liable for Kakuta's fine, must also pay Lens 113,000.
While an appeal from Chelsea is almost certain, there could be substantial fallout from the deal. Other clubs who lost young talent to bigger, such as Lazio who lost Federico Macheda to Manchester United could pursue action if they feel the transfer was shifty business.
What do you think of the ruling? Is it unfair on a club like Chelsea? How much of an impact will it have? source:http://www.soccerbyives.net/
